Summer 2011 is the Summer of Salads

Table Top DisplayHave you eaten salad today?  Embracing salad as part our diet is said to be one of the healthiest eating habits that we can take on.  This is not really that hard to do, considering that salads are already being offered in most restaurants today.

All the simpler it shall be now as restaurants across the United States declare the summer of 2011 to be the Summer of Salads.  Realizing that there is a growing whole new generation of food conscious customers that are searching for alternatives to pizza and burger, restaurants shall now simultaneously exhibit a Super Summer Salad Fiesta.

Wendy’s was the first to lead the way to salad bars in 1979.  This year, it will once again pioneer to another fast-food innovation, the Berry Almond Chicken Salad. Packed with fresh blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and acai berry, the Berry Almond Chicken Salad is filled with vitamins and antioxidants that would very well have the consent and endorsement of health professionals.

McDonald’s is also leading the Summer of Salads celebration with their own recently re-introduced Asian Salad, which will rest right alongside ten new salad dishes this summer.  If you love the sheer taste of the fast-food giant’s popular Asian Salad,   you’ll love it even more when you learn that it has less than 400 calories when served with grilled chicken.

Noodles & Company is fully diversifying and joining the festival with two fresh salads to their menu:  the Backyard Barbeque Chicken Salad, which is stacked up with plenty of summertime favorites, and the Very Berry Spinach Salad.

Bruegger’s Bakeries are going full force, getting the feel of the Summer of Salads with not one or two, but five “Café Salads.”  Heavily promoted in their table top displays are The Sesame Chicken Salad, Harvest Chicken Salad, Mandarin Medley, Classic Cobb and the all time favorite Chicken Caesar. Bruegger’s takes great pride in saying that all these salads have less than 330 calories.

Red Robin is also taking part by placing table top displays of their Summer Strawberry Salad with their own special in-house strawberry dressing. Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse has launched two new salad specialties –totally scrumptious-sounding The Steakhouse Cob and the Steakhouse Lobster Cob where filet mignon and North Atlantic lobster has replaced the regularly-used chicken ingredient.  Hurricane Grill & Wings is introducing their Summer of Salads tropical inspired Caribbean salads intriguingly named The Strawberry Fields and The Jamaican Jerk Salad.

For us who love this dish, it’s truly a celebration!
