Looking for ways to generate publicity for your restaurant? Get your apron-clad restaurant staff involved with relevant projects in your community. It need not be as big as the projects of large restaurant chains, but what’s important is letting your local community know that you care.
Arby’s Foundation, the charitable arm of Arby’s Restaurant Group, helps in trying to save the world by initiating moves to help abate childhood hunger in the U.S. They rolled out the following projects earlier this November:
• First, they donated $300,000 to one of America’s leading non-profit organization Share Our Strength. The fund goes specifically to the organization’s No Kid Hungry Campaign, which celebrated its first year anniversary this month.
• Second, the foundation donated $1 to No Kid Hungry every time someone checked-in at Foursquare this whole month of November. They allotted as much as $50,000 for this project, which they called Check-in for Charity at Foursquare.
• Third in line was the fundraising crusade at all Arby’s Restaurants across the nation, where the chain encouraged their diners to donate $1 to the No Kid Hungry Campaign. In return, Arby’s apron-clad wait staff provided coupons to their generous diners for a $1 discount off their new Ultimate Angus Philly sandwich for the guests’ next visit. One hundred percent of the proceeds went to the fund drive.
• And finally, Arby’s used its influence to increase online consumer pledges for the campaign via social media by using in-store awareness for their guests.
“We realize the big impact of hunger in a child’s life, as it affects their totality, including their sleeping habits and school concentration,” said Arby’s Foundation’s executive director Kate Atwood. “One fifth of all children in America suffer from hunger, and there is an urgency to find ways to initiate change. We’ve been exerting efforts so that Arby’s customers realize this need, and we can see that they do care about the cause. They are willing to help.”
Now on its 25th year, the Arby’s Foundation continuously makes every effort to fulfill its mission of ensuring that all American children have access to nourishing food, with the firm belief that every child ought to be able to grow, learn and play. This goes hand in hand with the goal of the No Kid Hungry Campaign, which is to end childhood hunger in America by 2015. The foundation has made a pledge to the campaign that it will raise not less than $1 million before the year ends. For every purchase of Arby’s Kids Meals, customers are donating a portion of their money to the Arby’s Foundation.
The foundation has already risen over $52 million worth of funds in support of youth community projects in districts that they serve, and is now fervent in their mission to join the battle against childhood hunger in the country. Supported by Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc., the foundation also works with Arby’s Franchise Association (AFA) Service Corporation and their suppliers.
